How I can help you?
In this busy modern day, life can become very stressful. The competing demands of work and family can take their toll. When other stressors are added to the mix such as ill health, bereavement, relationship difficulties or work issues it is easy to see how our ability to deal with daily life can be adversely affected and it all becomes a struggle. Reiki can help you to cope.
What is Reiki?
It is a form of natural healing which has probably existed for many hundreds of years and was introduced into the West from Japan in the early 20th century. Reiki helps to balance an individual’s energy, not just physically but emotionally, mentally and spiritually too; the result is a deep relaxation which helps to promote the body’s own natural ability to heal.
Reiki is a Japanese word which can be translated as meaning Universal Life Force. This universal energy flows through all things and is what connects us to all that is. It is the loving, healing energy which comes from the Universe, Light, Source, God, whichever term seems right for you.
The important thing for you to know is that Reiki is open to all. You don't have to have a particular affiliation to any belief system in order to benefit from it.
What does Reiki help with?
Reiki can be enjoyed at any time but is particularly helpful when life gets difficult, in times of emotional upheaval and stress, after a bereavement or when moving house, for example. Perhaps you are feeling stressed out because of difficulties at work or your close relationships are not going well. Maybe you are experiencing problems with elderly parents or children which are leaving you feeling wrung out, depleted and depressed. These are all times when a treatment can be beneficial. It is a safe, soothing treatment which can help you to feel calm and better able to cope.
You should always consult your Doctor if you have concerns about your health and Reiki is very beneficial when used alongside conventional treatment for illness. It is helpful in reducing some kinds of pain, lowering blood pressure, improving heart rate and also benefits sufferers of anxiety and depression. Clients often report that they enjoy better quality sleep after a session.
If you are anxious about a forthcoming event, an important interview or an operation, for example, Reiki is a great way to help yourself to remain calm and relaxed and therefore better able to manage the situation. One lady I know received Reiki whilst waiting to be taken down to theatre for a hip replacement operation. She described herself as being the most relaxed person on the ward in spite of the ordeal which lay ahead.
Who can benefit from Reiki?
Reiki is safe to use for everyone, old and young, from the pregnant mother to the frail elderly. There are no known contraindications.
A Reiki session is a lovely gift to give to someone and I can provide vouchers. Why not treat someone you know who would benefit?
What does a Reiki treatment involve?
I ask you to remove your coat and shoes before lying down on a comfortable couch for your treatment. However, if it is easier for you to remain sitting in a chair, that is perfectly fine. I will offer you a blanket to cover you, if you need that. I usually light candles and play soft music in order to create a relaxing setting. During the course of the treatment I will place my hands gently on your body, usually starting with your head and working down to your feet. I don't touch intimate parts of your body and will hover my hands over those areas. You may experience heat or cold from my hands and tingling in your body, or you may feel nothing at all. Some people fall asleep during the session. It is not unusual for there to be an emotional release during the treatment in the form of laughter or tears and that is all part of the process. If you have a particular area that you want treated I will normally give you a full body treatment whilst giving that area extra attention as seems necessary. The Reiki energy works on all levels, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual and it is described as an intelligent energy, meaning that wherever the hands are placed, the energy will flow to the area that needs it. The outcome of a session may therefore differ from what you anticipated but it will always be beneficial to you. You may find that some pain has shifted, or that your mind has gained some clarity. A sense of deep relaxation or feeling invigorated are other possible outcomes of your treatment. Afterwards I will offer you water to drink.and I would encourage you to continue to drink plenty of water as this helps toxins to be cleared from your body. It is also a good idea to have time to rest and relax after a treatment as this seems to enhance the benefits.
How long are the sessions and how many will I need?
A session will last an hour, with the treatment taking about 45 minutes. A first session will take a little longer as we will have a chat about how you are hoping to benefit from Reiki and I will ask you to give me some basic information about yourself. A treatment costs £40.
Sometimes a single treatment is all you will need. However, if you have an ongoing problem, regular sessions may be better or perhaps an intensive course of a few sessions close together. That is something we will talk about and you can decide what is best for you. A treatment can be enjoyed just for the experience and as a way of helping to maintain your wellbeing.
Reiki for your pets
Animals love Reiki too and the results can be quite amazing. Recently I looked after a cat for a family member whilst they were on holiday. Bob came from a cat rescue centre and is very anxious. Usually, when confronted by his travelling cage he gets very upset and it is a real struggle to get him into it, a distressing situation for all concerned. However, when it was time for him to return home, after receiving the occasional Reiki session during his stay, he just walked into his cage without hesitation!
If you think that your family pet would benefit from some Reiki because they are anxious or hyperactive please contact me to discuss the best way of carrying out the treatment. It doesn't have to be hands on, the energy is just as effective if delivered from a distance.
Of course if your pet is unwell, you should always consult your vet.
My base for Energy Healing
My base for giving Reiki healing is at my home in Loughborough which is in easy reach of Leicester, Derby and Nottingham and the East Midlands generally as I am a few minutes drive away from Junction 23 of the M1 motorway. I can come to you to give you a treatment in your own house if travelling is difficult for you. Ideally that should take place in a quiet room away from distractions and with enough space for the treatment table although you can remain seated if that is your preference. There would be an small additional charge to cover the cost of my travel, depending on the distance.
I carry out treatments for staff and students, on request, at the Therapy clinic at the Students' Union on the Loughborough University campus.
There is something about touch which is in itself healing. Most of us understand the power of a gentle squeeze of the shoulder from a loving person when we are troubled. And of course infants cannot thrive without it. However if the circumstances dictate and I cannot give you a hands on treatment it is perfectly possible for me to send you the Reiki energy from a distance. It could be that you are in a different room, a different town, or a different country; the Reiki energy will find you wherever you are.
"I contacted Barbara as she had once offered me some distant Reiki while I was ill and it had helped me a lot! On this particular day, I was experiencing a really severe migraine (I've had them since I was nine!) and I wanted to try and get through it without taking medication...because I had five piano students to teach the next day. Barbara kindly told me that she would send Reiki at 3pm and again at 9pm which I was extremely grateful for!
One of the problems with a migraine is that the pain can be so strong, it makes sleeping
impossible and I badly needed to sleep! I wasn't particularly aware of the exact time but somewhere around 3pm, I fell asleep and didn't wake up for two and a half hours!! When I did finally open my eyes, the pain had greatly lessened which was SUCH a relief! And, more importantly, I was able to drink water without feeling sick!
By 9pm, I was sitting downstairs...just for a change of venue as my bedroom is very small! Again, within in a few minutes, I was asleep and this time, when I woke up, the pain had almost gone! I had slept for a further two hours!
I have to say that this was the first time in my entire life that I had managed to come out the other side of a migraine without medication!! RESULT!! Huge credit to Reiki and its practitioner!!
THANK YOU, Barbara! Whatever you are doing....keep doing it!! :-))))"
It is possible for a Reiki healing to be sent in advance and programmed to arrive at a set time. This is particularly helpful if you live in a different time zone from me. A distance healing session lasts about 15 minutes for which I charge £15.
So how does it work?
It would be truthful to say that I don't absolutely know HOW the Reiki energy works. I know it does work because of the feedback I get from clients (and from Bob too, of course) and from my own experience. I guess it is bit like using a television or the internet, I don't need to know how they work, I just know that they do! For those of you who are interested, click on the "How Reiki works" tab where I give my best understanding which I have gleaned from reading and talking to other practitioners. It may all seem to you to be a bit "off the wall" but as Einstein said "Not everything that counts can be counted and not everything that can be counted counts."
I also provide training so that you can learn to use this healing energy yourself. Click here for more information about the training I offer.
and bring balance into your life.
